Around the year 1967 challenge games were played on Little Island between St. Lappan’s and Clash, St. Lappan’s and Glounthaune.
Developing from these, a regular Sunday morning kick around where John Byrne, Redmond Carroll, Jim Sullivan and one or two others talked about entering a team in the Cork A.U.L This was indeed a brave venture by a group of lads who would have been in their late teens, early twenties and no experience of soccer at club level. It was decided to enter for the 1968-69 season the club that was called Little Island was born which has now become Leeside AFC.
Paddy Twomey took over as trainer. Jim Sullivan (Doc) as selector and John Long joined the team from Rockmount.
The team continued to play in Church Road.
1969-1970
1970-1971
January 1971 was the beginning of the end for Island Albion. Training was stopped as no funds existed. Trying to field eleven players at the end of the season was proving most frustrating. At this point too many problems existed and so ,The Albion played their last season.
Island Albion never reached great heights on the playing field but because of the great character and wit, which a number of the players possessed they provided us with some very funny stories.
Looking back it was very evident that youth would greatly influence the progress and success of soccer. It was particularly obvious in 1971 when its very existence was threatened by the collapse of Island Albion. Those early challenge games between the different areas in the parish which led to the eventual formation of Island Albion would continue. With the numbers participating on the increase, St. Lappan’s began to play their home fixtures on a field adjacent to St. Lappan’s then owned by Mr. Northridge, Clash would play on the land of Lanes opposite Mrs. Foley’s shop and Glounthaune would play at the water’s edge in the village. The interest and enthusiasm shown in these games contributed to the belief of Martin O’Neill and Tony Dunlea, that potential for future soccer teams did exist.
In the 1971-72 season no team was entered in league but there was a new club formed in 1971, called Little Island Athletic.
Chairman : Martin O’ Neil
Secretary: Tony Dunlea
Treasurer :Denis O’ Callaghan
The club also secured it’s first pitch from Mr Cogan and by February, 1972 training was in progress at a field adjacent to Paddy Riordan’s boreen close to the field secured from Mr. Cogan for their first season. From those training, a membership fee of 50p was collected and this along with a weekly raffle financed the club.
An under 16 seven a side tournament was run at the training ground and from this tournament enough interest was generated to enter an under 18, under 16 and junior team in the Killeagh Festival.
The under 16 and minor team both winning their sections!
1971-1972
By the beginning of the 1972-73 season, Little island Athletic were very organised. A field was secured with the help of Bill Cogan, who played with the Club. George O’Connor supplied the timber for goal posts and Tony Dunlea assembled them. A start was made on a dressing room that would not alone be used by players but also by cattle, who would eventually take over. What must rate as the most original idea for lining a soccer pitch was practiced for the first time by Little Island Athletic. Denis O’Callaghan would sit in the boot of a car with a bag of lime and empty same through a hole while the car, driven by its owner George O’Connor, travelled over the areas that needed to be lined. While visiting teams succeeded in making their way down Paddy Riordan’s boreen, and arrive at the gate to witness this exercise, I wonder what was going through their minds!
A Junior and for the first time, a Youths team were registered with the A.U.L. Both were managed by Martin O’Neill and Tony Dunlea and were made up of local based players. The juniors benefiting from the experience of the Albion players would prove themselves worthy opponents, losing only one match in the Shield and that to eventual winners, Fermoy.
The entry of a Youths team was a very significant step in the development of the game in the Parish. This team and future youths team would produce most of the players of the very successful Eighties and early Nineties teams.
1972-1973
Donal O Connor,Ger Horgan & John Hayes attending the 1973 Dinner Dance, In the Hilltop Hotel Youghal.
1973-1974
The Club would again avail of the generosity of the late Mr. Cogan and use his land for their home base. Access was gained to the pitch via Paddy Riordan’s boreen which began on Courtstown road and ended in the
yard of Willie McGrath. From here across to a field to Kilcogan Park as it was now known. This journey left a lot to be desired but on a beautiful summers evening the scenic location of the pitch more than compensated. Kilcogan Park, a hive of activity on a Sunday morning was clearly visible to mass-goers attending
the very beautiful Glounthaune church which in 1973 celebrated its 75th birthday, throw in the view of J.J. Donnelly’s, but a short boat ride away, welcoming all to after-match refreshments meant win, lose or draw all involved were happy to be part of the atmosphere.
Little Island had by now decided to change from their red to an all white strip which had a blue and red sash across the jersey. While the change was welcomed, it had little or no impact on results for the junior team.
Much dis-satisfaction was now being voiced by players regarding team selection leading to the election of captain, John Long and Jimmy Sullivan as selectors, with one other helping out in early season until things settled down.
Like the change of jersey, the change of selectors brought no improvement for 1973-74
Billy Hegarty, better known in modern times as trainer to successful Erins Own Senior Hurling team, was appointed manager of the Youths team, and while Shield results were poor, a big improvement was seen in the League.
Throughout the sixties, Little Island enjoyed the status of a beauty spot. Its scenic walks on the shores of the Lee and through wooded lands are today but a memory overshadowed by what was then but an uncertain conversation. By 1974 the fears or in many a case aspirations of the people would be realised. The transformation of their Island had begun. While things were now much clearer in Little Island regarding its future an air of uncertainty would exist in the soccer club for a number of years to come.
At the A.G.M. for 1973-74 Martin O’Neill was re-elected Chairman as was Denis O’Callaghan Treasurer. Tim Murphy from Glounthaune took over as Secretary and proved himself a great asset to the Club. Committee members elected were Jimmy O’Sullivan, John Crowley, Tony Dunlea, George O’Connor. But for this meeting very few others took place except for the occasional un-official one on return bus journeys from far away places like Ballydaly, Newmarket and Tallow. Jimmy Sullivan (Doc) was appointed Junior Manager and he picked his team from the following panel of players:
Gerry Ryng, Kevin Byrne, John Crowley, Ger Lambe, John Daly, Tony Dunlea, John Long, Alan Kinevane, Michael O’Flynn, Willie O’Regan, Ger Horgan, Donal O’Connor, David Ward, Tom Cleary, John O’Sullivan (Sam), Denis O’Regan.
John Crowley took charge of the Under 18 team and his task proved a difficult one. Looking now at this Youths Team with players like Edward Twohig, John Hayes, D. Ward, Edward and Gerard Horgan , Ger Delea and Eddie Cleary it is difficult to understand why they did not do better. Dinner Dances around this period were very well supported with 100 – 150 people always guaranteed. At the end of the 1973/74 season the Club travelled to Garryvoe for a very enjoyable night. The annual Church Gate Collection, membership and weekly subs from players were enough to keep the Club running for the year.
Both Junior and Youths teams travelled to away games by bus, a high percentage of this cost was met by the players themselves.
At the end of the season, the Club left Kilcogan Park in search of another ground as did a few players in search of a new Club.
1974-75
1975-1981
We continued to play in AUL third division until 1981.
In 1981 the team was managed by Mick Canning, and now playing their home games behind St Lappans.
The team managed by Mick Canning won promotion to division 2 ,finishing runners up to Avondale. With 2 games to go we needed 4 points to win the league but lost the second last match to Avondale, on a scoreline of 3-1.
This team also reached the quarter final of the Presidents Cup, we were beaten by Kilreen Celtic on penalties.
1981-1982
Little Island Athletic v Carrigaline 27/10/74 in the Saxone cup
1982-1983
Our Junior Team has played in the third division league up to the beginning of the 1982-1983 season when they were rewarded for their outstanding efforts. of the previous season by being promoted to the second division. Congratulations to this panel of players and of course their Manager Michael Canning. After now gaining promotion the team had its sights set on the first division and at the beginning of the season they looked very capable of reaching their goal. Mid-way through the season valuable points were dropped, and yet the team was in with a chance of the runners-up plagues, but for injury, I feel that the team would have finished in this position. The Presidents Cup seems to bring out the best in our Junior Team, This was justified when they qualified for the quarter-final stage-against Carrigaline. This game was played on Patricks Day and started with Leeside looking much the better side. Disaster struck when an intended cross by the Carrigaline winger finished up in the back of the net. Late in the game Leeside conceded an O.G. and finished whatever chance they had of advancing. This is the second year in succession that Leeside have reached this stage, maybe third time lucky next season. The team met strong opposition in the County, Saxone and A.O.H Cups and so went out in the early stages.
For the first time in many years the Club entered a Youths Team in the League, The team showed some very good individual talent but in a section of very high standard they did not compete very well. In the Murphy Cup they were drawn against the mighty Tramore Athletic at Leeside Park, and what a cracking performance this was by the Leeside lads. In the early stages of the game the local lads took the Tramore defence apart and went into a 2-goal lead. Tramore showing great character pulled this lead back, They then went into the lead, but to the final whistle absorbed some fierce pressure in a very fine game of football. Well done to Mick Considine, Players and all involved in the team.
Qne of the most enjoyable events of the season was the Midleton School Boys League. Leeside were represented here by an under nine and under-twelve team. Truly these lads provided great entertainment for the largest crowd that came to see them play. All credit here goes to Mr. Elliot and friends who trained and organised these teams. Hopefully next season with a little more help, these lads will play in the Cork School Boys Leagues.
Our Annual Social was held this year at the John Barleycorn Inn and turned out to be a very enjoyable night
indeed. We took the opportunity to present the Martin O Neill Perpetual Player of the Year Troply to Gerard Lambe, who worked so hard for the team this season. Congratulations Gerard. Congratulations also to Ken Walsh, who was chosen as our Youths Player of the Year. Our Annual Patricks Day run was again very successful. I would like to thank everybody involved in the success of this event.
With so many players now unable to secure a place on our first team it was decided to enter a second team in their interest. It was hoped that this team would strengthen our first team, and so in future years build a stronger club. Looking back over last season we must honestly say that a lot of doubt hangs over these theories. Finishing very close to the bottom of the league, and going out of every cup in the first round was most disappointing for everybody involved. However congratulations to all the players who went out week after week to play what was to be a record number of league games. They can be proud of their efforts throughout the season.
There was no doubt that this team consists of some very potentially good players capable of winning one if not more trophies in the coming season. So much is expected of the first team in every club that a vast change of attitude to team and club was badly needed from every player involved.
The success of any club depends an awful lot on its youth. This is the main reason why we again decided to enter a youth team. With most of the previous seasons players now over age they had it all to do for the coming season. In the league they produced some fine results and finished in a very admirable fourth position. With most of this team still underage for next season, and some very good prospects for the future, 1 think it is essential that every effort be made to keep this team in the league. Congratulations to Frank Horgan on being selected for the Munster under seventeen team. This was indeed a great honour for our club.
1983-1984
1984-1985
Charlie Crowley took over as team manager. Our first assignment of the year was in The Little Island
Community Festival where we beat Sarsfields of Youghal , Our first trophy of the year.
We had a couple of good cup runs in the AOH and in the County Cup, but it was in the Presidents Cup
that we achieved our first big breakthrough.
In the final at Turners Cross we defeated Douglas all 2 – 1.
Leeside captured their first cup in League football when they beat Douglas Hall United 2-1 in a thrilling President’s Cup final at Turner’s Cross . Douglas dominated the early exchanges and efforts by Brian Martin and Paddy Kirby worried the Leeside defence.
The winners took the lead in the 27th minute. Kieran Horgan broke up a Douglas attack and found Dan Greene on the left edge of the box. Greene’s footwork left his marker stranded and then he scored with a surprise near post shot that went in off the scrambling keeper.
Douglas scored a deserved equaliser just before the break. A good move involving Brian Martin and Con Harrington ended with a Jimmy Madden shot being deflected over. The Corner was headed powerfully towards goal by Niall Creedon. The ball came back off the post but Douglas skipper Jack Kent was on hand to force it home.
Leeside’s winner came in the 60th minute. A left wing clearance by Eddie Horgan was misheaded by a Douglas defender. Greene reacted quickest of all an touched the loose ball past the advancing keeper.
Douglas fought back well and deserved an equaliser. But luck wasn’t on their side. For instance, in the 72nd minute a superb long ball by Con Harrington sent sub Brian Foley racing in from the left but his shot came back off the post. Seconds later, a powerful shot by Con Harrington came off a defender and bit the bar.
We also got to the final of the Saxone cup and after a very hard match which went to extra time and
penalties we went down 5 – 4 to Avondale.
It was our first big AUL trophy and great credit must go to the team and Manager.
In 1985-86 we entered the FAI and Munster junior cups for the first time.
We played Kinsale at home in the munster junior cup and after a gallant
display we went down to the more experienced opposition on a scorline of 4 – 2.
In the FAI we fielded a weakend eleven and once again after putting up a brave performance we lost narrowly on a score of 2 – 1.
The same year we had seven points to spare at the top , when we won the league.
Indeed we only lost one match in the whole league campaign, a tribute to
the team and manager Charlie Crowley.
Top scorers for the season were:
J Sullivan 34 goals
Noel Greene 31 goals
Ger Delea 16 goals
1985-1986
1987-1988
We got off to a poor start to our league campaign and as a result our Manager resigned .
His successor Richard O’ Donoughue brought about a change in fortune. We went on a run that
was to see us beaton only once in 22 games.
In the FAI Junior cup we were beaten by Casement Cetic in the first round. In the Munster
Junior Cup we reached the last round in the Cork section but were knocked out by eventual winners Douglas Hall 3 – 2.
In the AOH Cup ,we got to the last 16 but we were beaten by Mayfield United 4 – 3 after extra time.
In the County Cup we were unlucky to lose out to Castle Celtic over two legs, the scorline was 2 – 1.Castle Celtic went on to win the competition.
And in the St Michaels Cup, we went down narrowly to Mayfield United, 2 – 1 after extra time.
Top Scorers for the season were :
Frank Horgan 26 goals
John O Sullivan 14 goals
One of the high points of the season was when Frank Horgan was chosen as Tennents Player of the month for March, a great personal achievment for Frank and a great honour for the club
A dissapointing season all round, We didn’t fair well in any of the cup competitions, and our League form was very erratic . The result of all this was that we had no silverware to show for our endevours.
Our best performance of the year was our run in the County Cup , we managed to reach te semi-final before losing out to the eventual winners.
Our Player of the year was Paddy Ward.
1988-1989
1989-1990
More erratic form in the League ment that we didn’t really make any impression on the top places,Again we saved our best performances for the County Cup. After beating Blarney,Park UTD and Crossaven we faced Macroom in the semi-final . After a two legged match ,we emerged winners on a 5 – 0 scorline.
In the final we were paired against a very strong Bandon team. After a tense 90 minutes we went down by the only goal of the game.
Top Scorers for the year:
John Corcoran 14 goals
John O’ Sullivan 9 goals
Frank Horgan 5 goals
Pat Milner 4 goals
A fantastic year for the club .
After a few barron years we won the league and County Cup double.
In the County Cup we defeated Macroom Wanderers 4 – 0 at home.In the next round we beat Strand UTD 4 – 1 on a terrible December day.
Then we met with Macrooms first team ,a 2 – 1 win sent us on our way to meet Boher Celtic whom we beat 5 – 0. This set us up for a semi-final with Hibernians. The first leg of the semi-final was played at home with a weak Leeside team losing 2 – 0. The following Sunday we travelled to Hibernians with a much stronger team.We were 3 – 1 up at full time. This sent the game into extra time and both teams failed to score. And so to penalties. After a tense shootout we went through to meet Coachford in the final. In the final Coachford started well and took the lead before halftime.
John O’ Sullivan headed ome the equalizer mid way through the second half 1 – 1 at full time meant we had to go to extra time again. At the end of extra time both teams had failed
to score and so it all came down to penalties.
After a tense shootout, in which Denis McCarthy played a blinder in goal, Leeside had won by 4 – 3.
A great night was had by all in the Elm Tree.
We won the league without loosing a single match.
1990-1991
1990-1991
Leesides first year in premier football.
This was our first year in the premier division and our main aim was to hold our position there for the next season.
This was achived with a mid table finish. The team was very happy with this position , well done to all involved.
The teams real success this year was achived in the A.O.H.cup.We reached the semi-final for the first time, against Crescent Athletic. The game was played in Rockmount Park, we started well creating one or two half chances, all square after half an hour and Leeside had a great chance to go in to the lead,a great ball across the Cresent goal was met by a Leeside
leg but in stretching for the ball was unable to guide the ball home. This was our one and only clear cut chance. Cresent scored and though we tried hard we were unable to get the goal back.
Pitch Development.
During the year the club announced its proposal to purchase and develop the site of the existing Leeside pitch. It was proposed to build a community hall and dressing rooms and develop a new pitch. This was a major undertaking for the club.
A most disappointing year on the field of play. We lost our premier league status. Only 8 points from a possible 44, not good enough!
No joy either in any of the cup competitions.
The only spark of joy during the year came from our youths team who finished as Runners up in there league.
Off the field of play, the development of the pitch and Leisure Complex was keeping everybody busy.
The highlight of the year was the day of the official sod turning. It was great to see the beginning of what was to be a very exciting time for the club and residents of Little Island.
1992-1993
1993-1994
This seasons home games had to be played at our temporary home which was Ellis’s field.
Work is still ongoing at Leeside Park.
It Didn’t seem to matter where we played , because we won the County Cup.
Team that won the County Cup
We beat Kinsale 1 – 0 at Turners Cross. Thomas Lyons got the winner in the 22nd minute.
Gerry Holland Captained Leeside .
Again we had to play our home matches in Ellis’s field. Many thanks to Billy Ellis for is generosity.
Work was coming to a close at Leeside Park, we waited in anticipation….
On the field we fielded 4 teams ,Junior teams in the first and third division ,Youths team in the second division, and an Under 16 team in the first division.
The Junior First division team were in contention up to the last few matches ,but a few bad results and they feel away.
The Junior Third division team finished 4th and gained promotion to the second division.
The youths team won the League after defeating Blarney in a playoff along with the second division Youths Cup.
A great achievement by Denis Cambridge and his team.
Our Schoolboys did really well without actually winning anything.
1994-1995
1995-1996
The first game was played on Leeside Parks new pitch on August 13th 1995.Leeside took on Central Rovers.
Leeside won 2 – 1.
It was a proud day for all who had worked long and hard to see the development finished.
The annual Inter league challenge Game was held at Leeside’s magnificent new ground on 23rd of September 1995. Cork AUL lost a close match to Dublin AUL 1 – 0.
Leeside’s second division side finished runners up and got promoted to the first division.
After years of struggle and behind the scenes activities, the vision of a Community Sports and social Complex became a reality last weekend
with the startup of construction on a six and a half acre site currently used by Leeside AFC at Wallingstown, Little Island.
The complex, designed by top architect Stephen Hyde, includes a first class Soccer pitch, Tennis courts, full changing facilities and a Community Hall. The centre piece is a multi purpose gym, housing such indoor sports as Football, Badminton, Tennis and Basketball.
The cost of the project is in excess of £500,000 The majority of this is funded by the Little Island Industry’s Development Company (LIIDC), a representative group of over 30 industries operating on Little Island. Together with the Little Island Community Association and Leeside FC, a Holding company was formed to build the complex. The Holding company is called Wallingstown Amenities and Recreational Company Ltd, (WARC). This partnership must rank as one of the most unique in the country, because it brings together the sporting, residential and industrial inhabitants of Lttle Island, three separate groups with one aim to provide facilities that will be of benefit to all. This is a model example of industry and community living in harmony.
The venture has provided Leeside FC with facilities that are on a par with the best in the country and provide the Community Association with an ultra modern center. The sod turning ceremony was performed by Bishop of Cork, John Buckley on Saturday last. Among the local dignitaries at the ceremony were the local councillors and local VIP’s and MEPs. A reception was held afterwards on the premises of Henkel Ireland ltd. The site is located directly across from Mitsui Denman.
Mr Barry Condon of the IDA, from whom the site was purchased, has welcomed the development and said he fully supported the project and acknowledged the very significant contribution which the industries were making to the community infrastructure.
LEESIDE AFC SECRETERYS REPORT 1999 / 2000
It is with great pleasure I submit to you my report on the activities and operation of your
club for the past year. we had five teams between schoolboys and aul they were u 13
schoolboys league u 17and u 18 aul and two junior teams .in the aul lb and premier
leagues. the u 13 team managed by bill cogan and working from a small panel did well to
finish where they did in the league . The u 17 team managed by Jimmy o sullivan had a very successful year winning the league cup and finishing well in the league. well done to Jimmy Barr. The u 18 team managed by kieran horgan and John gettings were playing in the premier division and finished in the top half and also reached the semi-final of the Murphys youth cup. The league I b team managed for the first time by Ger Delea finished a credible third in the league and were it not for a spate of injurys at a critical time would have finished higher.
John shine took over as manager of the premier team at the start of the year and was aninstant success while it was disappointing to go out in the first round of the fai and
munster junior cups we made up for it by reaching the finals of the A.O.H and Mossy -Linnane cups in the AOH we were beaten I nil by Barney after a replay but we gained revenge by winning the mossy -linnane 1-0 against the same opposition. after leading the league for
most of the season it was very disappointing to be caught in the last game of the season
but I am confident that if we can keep this panel together and add to IT more success will
follow.
It was a great honour for the club to have three of our players Frank Walsh,Conor O
Leary and David Welch selected to play on the aul inter league team and David Welch has
brought further honour to the club by winning the golden boot award with twenty three
league goals.
The premier team also won the team of the month award for April. The under age section is now up and running and are gearing up to enter two teams in the schoolboys
league next year. as part of their preparation they travelled to Tralee to play some games and have recently returned from a successful trip to wales, from a playing point of view the club is in a very healthy state.
Since the last agm we have developed a floodlit training area this has taken the pressure off the main pitch and has seen an upturn in the numbers training .This Is part of our on going efforts to improve and increase our facilitys. the club desperately needs more land the committee are following a couple of lines of inquiry but at the moment It is too early to say if anything will come of it.
1999-2000
2000-2001
PREMIER TEAM MANAGER :JOHN SHINE
The season started with the premier team having high hopes of finally winning the premier league, having won the AOH cup at the end of last season the team was very confident they could win the league .The team started very poorly and won only one game from there first five and found themselves at the foot of the table. This is not what John Shine had in mind and he felt he had no option but to resign .Gerry Holland took over with Denis helping him got a good run which brought them back up the table .Leeside were on top for a while changing top spot with Rockvilla on a few ocassions but waiting just below them were old rivals Blarney. With just three games to go Leeside had the league in there sights but only 3 points from these games ment a win for Blarney in there last game would give them the league and win they did.Leeside will look back and wonder how they let onother league go ,The poor start, Jermy O Sullivan out with injury for so long and losing vital games in the end ment we will have to wait onother year.Leeside were the holders of the AOH cup having won it for the first time the year before were drawn away to Passage in there first defence ,This was a third round game and after a great game in Passage it ended in a two all draw with Leeeside missing a penalty in the the last few minutes of extra time. The replay in Little Island again failed to produce a winner and so it went to penaltys where Passage won 4-3.In the Linnane cup Leeside were beaten by Maymount in the quarter final.Leeside did have some thing to chear about as Craig Donnelly won the golden boot award scoring 22 league goals ,congratulations Craig.Leeside also had players on the cork AUL team ,Craig Donnelly ,Connor O Leary Jermy O Sullivan and both Stephen and Frank Walsh before both cryed off the panal with injurys. The Leeside players did themselves and the club proud and helped to bring the AUL team to the semi-final of the oscar traynor cup.Craig Donnelly scored 8 goals along the way for the AUL team.
LEAGUE 1B MANAGERS : GER DELEA , JOHN O SULLIVAN.
Managers John and Ger had high hopes for this team and for long spells it looked like they could win this league.Leesides second string looked very strong early on and shared top spot with Springfield for most of the season.A few poor results late in the league handed the initiative to Springfield and they held on to win the league.Leeside finished in third position .In the cups the team got a good run in both County and St Michaels cups .In the St Michels cup Leeside reached the semi-final before losing to Blackpool 3-1.In the county cup Leeside had good wins over Brooklodge Bellmount ,Kanturk before losing to Passage. This is a very young team are well capable of winning a trophy in the near future.
LEAGUE 3B MANAGERS COLM TWOHIG, KEN WALSH.
Leesides third string were managed by Colm and Ken for the season and they did a great job with the team finishing in 6th position .This was a great achivment considering it was our third team .This team put in some great performances during the year .In the cups Leeside put in some good performances but failed to progress to the later stages of any of them.
It was a long hard season for both teams ,the only highlight being the winning of the Mossy Linnae cup by the premier team at the end of the season.Ger o Mahony scoring the winning goal with five minutes to go against a very good Coachford side. The premier team finished in the lower half of the table while the first team managed by John O Sullivan finished mid table.Gerry Holland was manager of the premier team for the first time and a great job in keeping them in the premier league after a very poor start and also winning the Linnane cup.
2002-2003
2003-2004
Season 2003/2004 wasn’t a great year for the club. The club never reached the heights of previous years. The premier team finished second from the bottom and got no great run in the cups ,The second team playing in the first division finished mid table but they did manage to reach the County Cup final where they lost to Ballincollig by two goals to one. The club also had an under seventeen team who also finished mid table, this team reached the semi-final of the under 17cup where they lost to Springfield.
The club also had schoolboys teams and all these teams and there managers did the club proud during the year, It is hard to pick out individuals because so many people do such good work but Bill Cogan has to be mentioned for all the work he does with the schoolboys. The club entered teams in the under 8 and 9 seven a side leagues ,the highlight of these games was the great victory over Midelton where Craig Foley got the winning goal.
